Course
Description:
This
course provides an introduction to web development software suites. Topics
include the creation of web sites and applets using web development
software. Upon completion, students should be able to create entire
websites and supporting applets.
Credit Hours: Three (3) Semester

Course Goals:
- Demonstrate using Dreamweaver
to create websites
- Create a basic site layout using good principles of design
- Create a fully functional live web site using Dreamweaver or
other web development tools.
Course
Objectives:
Upon
successful completion, students will be able (through
completion of classwork and assignments):
- To recognize and distinguish HTML and other markup languages
- To demonstrate effective usage of the Dreamweaver interface
- To practice site control using Dreamweaver
- To demonstrate basic site layout using Dreamweaver
- To practice how to create links and format text using
Dreamweaver
- To demonstrate how to create tables, frames, and utilize Cascading Style
Sheets with Dreamweaver
- To practice how to create rollovers and functioning forms using
Dreamweaver
- To comprehend how to add Dreamweaver extensions
- To demonstrate how to publish a web site
- To comprehend the function of an applet, usability, and assessibility.
- To upload and maintain sites on a Web server

Exams must be taken on the assigned date; otherwise a grade of
zero will be assigned. Any exception to this policy must be the
result of a documented emergency or prior arrangement with the
instructor to take the exam before the scheduled exam date. There
will be no exceptions to this rule. NO EXCEPTIONS. |
| Weekly Lessons and Assignments |

Lessons & assignments: Lessons and
assignments are due on the assigned date. There will be no
extensions, no exceptions. ONLY DOCUMENTED EMERGENCIES will be
considered for extensions. In the remote chance that an extension is
given, a full grade point will be deducted for each DAY the project
or assignment is late. |

You are expected to participate in all class activities.
We will strictly follow the college attendance policy. You may
NOT be absent for more than 10% of the time. More than 10% absentee
means you will automatically be withdrawn from the class. You will
receive a "W." This is a hard and fast rule. Any absences must be
documented (i.e. doctor's excuse) to be excused.
Note for seated classes: Three tardies (more
than 20 minutes is tardy) equal one absence.
Note for
online classes: Your participation in class discussions and/or assignments is
considered as your attendance on a weekly
basis. |
Classroom
Policies:
- Students are responsible for all of the information presented in the
Wake Technical Community College Student Handbook.
- Please note that computers are to be used at all times for official
course purposes. Use of computers for general web
surfing, email, chat rooms, social networking etc. is not allowed. Violation of this rule
will result in a grade deduction and possible loss of computer
privileges.
- The college forbids the use of audible electronic equipment (cell
phones, mobile devices, etc.) during instructional time.
- If you miss a lecture or arrive late, you are responsible for the
material presented, handouts distributed, and any announcements made
that day. The instructor will not provide notes for missed classes.
Email Policy:
Every student has an official Wake Tech-provided email account which is to be used for all email correspondence with instructors and college officials. Some information (such as instructor to student correspondence, WebAdvisor registration info, and financial aid information) from Wake Tech will ONLY be emailed to this address. Students in all curriculum classes must activate and use their my.waketech.edu account. Once you have activated your email account, you may choose to re-direct your email to another email account of your preference. However, please be advised that Wake Tech will send email to your Wake Tech email account only and that college officials and instructors may decline to accept email from accounts other than the college-issued my.waketech.edu account.
